Fall 2020 Fashion Trends

Samantha Hudak

Autumn is finally here. That means it’s officially time to put away your cute summer clothes and fill your wardrobe with trendy yet cozy fits that will keep you warm this season. Say goodbye to flowy dresses, pastels, and sandals, and say hello to the newest styles perfect for the temperature change. And of course, don’t forget to wear your mask!

1. Preppy Turned Street Style

This preppy look consists of a collared shirt worn under a crewneck pullover paired with a tennis skirt and has taken the fashion world by storm. Recently, influencers can be found wearing various looks on social media. While the temperature is getting cooler, this outfit is perfect for keeping you warm while staying fashionable.

2. Prints and Textures!

Fall is the perfect time to experiment by incorporating new patterns and texture into your wardrobe. The most popular prints and textures this season are snakeskin, plaid, leather, and suede. Bold prints are popular on accessories, such as shoes and bags, as well as outerwear.

3. Structure is Everything!

Structured suit jackets and long camel coats are popular now, especially since it’s Fall and the weather is getting colder. Outerwear gives off the look of high fashion yet can be affordable and paired with almost anything. Suit jackets are a wardrobe essential and are perfect for the workforce or even when you need to dress up an outfit. Also, you can size up if you want to achieve the oversized boyfriend look, which is currently very trendy as well. Long camel coats will keep you warm in the cool Autumn wind and will compliment almost every outfit you wear.

4. Boots, Boots, Boots!

Just like every year, boots are the go-to-shoe for the Autumn season. Booties, knee-high boots, and combat boots are the most popular styles this season. Combat boots, such as Doc Martens, have officially made a comeback and are an excellent addition for multiple styles. These different types of boots are very versatile and can be dressed up and worn formally or dressed down to be worn with streetwear. Printed boots are also trendy as they pair nicely with solid colors and neutral-toned outerwear to give a statement look that’s just the right amount of bold.

5. Gold Jewelry. Layering is Key!

Gold jewelry is huge right now. Just by adding a couple of necklaces, earrings, and rings to your collection can elevate every outfit you wear. Layering necklaces are very popular now due to their simple yet elegant look. Gold hoops, specifically chunky ones, are hot right now as they complement layering necklaces very well and will accentuate your outfit. Vintage jewelry is also a big trend as sustainability is on the rise. People are thrifting now more than ever before, which is great for the environment.

6. Cozy and Cute! Vintage Oversized Plaid Jackets

As mentioned previously, vintage is super popular and on-trend right now. Promoting sustainability and saying no to fast-fashion is the way to go in 2020. These oversized jackets are perfect for Fall because not only do they pair nicely with a sweatshirt underneath, but they will also keep you very warm yet fashionable during this season. Also, plaid is one of the most popular patterns during cooler months. It will give off the perfect vibe and will make you want to look at the autumn foliage or go to a pumpkin patch while drinking a PSL!

7. Shoulder Bags

Shoulder bags are the it bags right now, especially baguette bags. These bags, originally designed by Fendi in 1997 are simple, elegant, and add so much to any outfit. These compact bags are the perfect accessory for anyone who doesn’t need to carry around a lot of things yet still want a super cute accessory.

8. Wide-Leg Jeans

Jeans. So versatile. A closet staple. A true classic. Jeans have been around for decades and have basically never gone out of style. They are truly timeless and, therefore, the perfect closet necessity. This season, skinny jeans are no longer the go-to style and instead have been replaced by flared and bootcut jeans. These styles are so versatile because they can be paired with just about any outfit. Also, cropped flared are in right now, and they allow you to show off your cute shoes.

9. Neutrals. Complimentary Black and Brown

In the past, it was against the fashion “rules” to wear black with brown. However, this is 2020, and if we can wear white after Labor Day, we can definitely pair brown with black. These colors are perfect for the upcoming seasons as they are very complimentary and look great on all different skin complexions. When paired together, these colors give off a very high fashion, chic look.

10. Fall Makeup

Some of the top Fall 2020 eye makeup trends include shimmery eyeshadows, artsy eyes, graphic liner, and soft brown eyeliner. As for face makeup, the natural, dewy look with fluffy brows is also popular when paired with peach-colored blush. As for almost every Autumn, red lips are, of course, a go-to lip color that makes any look pop.
