Easy Summer Make-Up Tips

Ali Friedburg

Even though many of us are staying home and safe, summer is here and that calls for experimenting with new makeup! With the weather heating things up, avoiding heavy products is necessary to keep them from melting off.  An ideal summer routine combines lightweight makeup with warm tones that compliment the bronze of the season.

If you’re going to be hanging with your friends or even just with family in the hot sun, opt for spot-concealing any redness or blemishes instead of wearing foundation. If more coverage is needed to even out your complexion, aim for a CC or BB cream. Adding SPF or sunscreen under your concealer is key, even if you’re not one to burn.  The UV rays do long-term damage to your youthful skin, and it is better to be safe than sorry!

Speaking of youthful skin, to achieve that dewy glow, apply some highlighter to the high points of your face. Adding a bronzer and mauve blush creates more dimension while also making you look sun-kissed!

Though your skin can be a key feature of your summer makeup regimine, drawing attention to the eyes is equally important. For a “no makeup-makeup” eye look, implement neutral tone shadows. Simple eye makeup can just be a taupe or bronze blended into the crease, and a chrome eyeshadow in your inner corners! Add a swipe of mascara, and you’re good to go!

For a night out, a glam outfit always matches with a bold eye look. Bright rainbow hues are the way to go. Brush your whole lid with an ultra violet shade or electric blue! You can apply concealer or eyeshadow base to make the colors really pop! Another fun tip is to match your eye makeup with your face mask!

We have the skin and eyes down, but the lips shouldn’t be neglected! Right now, shimmery glosses are all the rage. Experiment with different reflective glosses, or wear a rosey stain that can last you through a hot summer day!

Now that you have all of the essentials, the most important part of your summer makeup look is a smile and confidence! That’s the next best thing to a blinding highlight.
